Lakeshark! and Landshark! are two recently-published fiction books which use the Asian Carp crisis as a starting point for an adventurous romp through the State of Michigan and Lake Michigan’s shoreline. Written by Alan D. Roebuck, the author knows Michigan well.

Born in Detroit, he has lived in Michigan all of his life. Bouncing between Ann Arbor, home of the University of Michigan, and Grand Haven on the west coast of Michigan, Roebuck has traveled the Upper and Lower Peninsulas extensively.

As a teacher, his subjects are Communications, Psychology, and Business. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree and a Masters Degree in Communications.

He wrote his first book when he was 29. Published by Tab Books/McGraw-Hill, the title: How To Put Up Your Own Post-Frame House or Cabin landed on the Book of the Month club and was one of the publisher’s top sellers. His second book: 509 Practical, Money-Saving Tips for Homebuilders was published the next year. He also provided the idea for a book published by Garden Way Publishing named: “Getting a Roof Over Your Head.” He wrote two chapters for that book.

Moving on to fiction, his current books are Lakeshark! Invasion of the Asian Carp, and the sequel Landshark! Invasion of the Asian Carp.

LAKESHARK! Invasion of the Asian Carp – $12.95

This is a biological/environmental piece of fiction taking a real-life situation, Asian Carp trying to enter Lake Michigan, and propelling it into a “what-if” situation where the Asian Carp grow and mutate into man-eating fish. Based in Chicago, Grand Haven, and Beaver Island in Lake Michigan, the story follows two young and beautiful biologists as they attempt to control the carp invasion. They get involved in forensic science as they are brought in to examine victims who may have been attacked by the Lakesharks. Characters in the story include three couples on break from college looking for adventure, an island doctor, the local police officer, an esteemed captain of the coast guard, and the coroner. The biology in the book is accurate; it is meant to be informative and entertaining. This fantasy is written with refined language so that a person of any age can enjoy the book. LANDSHARK! Invasion of the Asian Carp – $14.95

This book begins where Lakeshark! leaves off. Lisa Brown and Emily French, two biologists, are given charge of stopping the carp from crawling on land and eating people. After having a bad experience with an anaconda down in Florida, they are called back to Michigan. The governor saddles them with stopping the Landsharks from terrorizing Michiganders. Lisa becomes fixated with carp and snakes as they invade her dreams. The premise of the book and especially Lisa’s dreams are extreme fantasy/satire.

How to Put Up Your Own Post Frame House and Cabin – $40

Now available. Hardcover versions of How to Put Up Your Own Post Frame House and Cabin. These books are new or nearly new and are signed by the author. This book takes the "pole-barn" technique and applies it to builders who want to build economical and sturdy homes. Written for first timers as well, home designers can calculate out all of the lumber they need with the span tables at the rear of the book. This home-building technique, pioneered by Roebuck, is now used in flood zones, surge areas, and high-wind areas to protect buildings. A large portion of the designs are stilted to protect the homes from floodwaters.

THE DRAGLINE – Coming Soon
